May be a silly question, but I've never heard or even heard of certain species hissing, namely some colubrids. Corns and Kings for example, I've heard them do a little 'TSS!' while they strike but that's as far as I've heard them. They seem to rattle their tail in defense/warning instead of hissing but is that because they just don't or cant?

there was a thread about retics hissing and i think on here noone has ever heard their retic hiss properly either
Hahaha yeah I knew about the saw-scaled vipers they're very interesting from the things I've seen/read about them. I've never even heard of someone claiming their corn or king snake has hissed only tail rattled which is strange. None of my snakes have ever hissed yet anyway so I'm not exactly up on the topic that's why I asked(although my new little royal has a mean little temper which is really amusing me at the moment and might start).
I've got a female Royal that will hiss when you attempt to pick her up.
