Hi guys,
I know that this topic is sensitive but I want to understand it and provide best / good environment for my dragon.
I've read a lot and also discussed with various breeders from UK and Europe.

The main output for the temps are :
- Basking spot temp with tempgun: 45-50 celsius
-Warm area temp : 30-35
- Coolside temp : 25-30 .

My enclosure is a 4 x 2 x 2 viv.

I bought several heating bulbs in order to get to those temps .

I have Halogens from Arcadia : 100w (PAR38), 75w(PAR30), 50w(PAR 20) also as suggested 80W ( PAR 38 ).

I am using as a basking place a Komodo Platform ( height: 10cm ) .

My thermostat is a Microclimate Lite .

With Halogens I manage to get the basking platform heated to the desired temp but the warm area and cool side are not getting to the correct temps and if I am trying to increase the thermostat temp the basking platform get way way too hot.

Right now I am using Arcadia Floodlight 150w and I am getting 45-46 celsius on the platform and warm area 35-36 celsius.

Any suggestions on how to create the temps with Halogen bulbs ?

Thank you very much.

Quite a confusing post. What are the halogen temperatures then? Realistically 40 to 45c is hot enough for the dragon.

I have always found halogens to be far hotter. Worth checking with a temp gun as well, more accurate than the digital thing in the pics.

Also if you are going to add a platform that raises the animal nearer the bulb, then that will be warmer.

After I will add the custom platform I think that the 100watts will be enough ( even 75watts ), since the platform will be 20-25 cm in height.

I am using temp gun !

With halogen 100W if the basking platform is 46-47 the warm area is 28-29-30 .

With 150w Floodlight : basking platform ( with temp gun ) is ( checked right now ) : 45-49 celsius => the sensor is on the back panel of the viv near a vent is set to 35 celsius . I have an electronic thermometer which has the probe on the side of the viv ( near the basking platform ) it shows : 34-35 celsius .

The Exoterra 100w bulb heat the platform to 40 celsius .

Hi, You basically need to provide two temps; the basking surface @ between approx 42 to 45c during the day, the coolest ambient @ approx 24c, no other temp matters.
I personally wouldn`t go much below 19c at night, unless the animal is brumating. I think the current coolest temp at 30c is too high... Easy!
Do you have any idea of gender?

My Basking surface temp ( with temp gun ) 45-47.
Warm side ( ambiental ) 33-34 on the right side of the viv near the basking platform.
Coolside temperature ( ambiental ) is 26.2.

I managed to get those temps with 100W Exo terra bulb ( non-halogen) .
My dragon just shedded and he is 6 months ( but he is very little since he was the clutch's runt ).

Thank you

The temps are o.k you don`t need to worry too much about the "warm side" ambient so long as the basking surface temp is within range it will be whatever it is, not to suggest it can go very high (over 38c) for extended periods.
You haven`t said what the humidity range is, can you do that, and also say whether the dragon is male or female?

I will go over it again: you basically need to worry about 2 temps, those are the coolest ambient (air) @ approx 21 to 24c (72 to 75f), then you need to set the basking surface temp @ between approx 43 to 45, if it`s a few degrees above it`s o.k (up to 2 or 3c higher). The ambient (air) temps around the basking site are not that important unless they go much above 38c (100f) especially for long periods.
I think the 100w flood beam halogens are a better choice (or buy a 120w and fit a dimmer switch) which makes adjusting the surface temps much easier, otherwise adjust the height of the basking object.
I would not buy the Arcadia brand heat bulbs because they are usually more expensive, and in my personal experience, no more effective.
Once again, the humidity should range between approx 30 to 60% or so (lower figure around the basking area, higher in the cooler parts including below the substrate)..
