HELP.. Yellow bellied slider terrapins SHELL !!!

Please look at this photo!! what is it??
this is our new baby yellow bellied slider terrapin and this is how we bought him. We think its just shedding? but hes so young?? wev never dealt with anything like this so PLEASE HELP USS!!! any ideas would be very much appreciated!

by the looks of it yes you are right the shell and carrapace are growing which causes a slightly shiny and darker area of shell between the colourful hatchling scales it is important to dust their food with a calcium and d3 powder to help them with this.

there can be problems with the shell becoming fluffy looking round the edges an this is mainly due to if the turtle cannot exit the water to dry off and thermo regulate under a basking lamp.
