Hi
I can't decide between Hermans and Spur thigh tortoises. Any thoughts? I know they have slightly different needs but I would just like to know other people's experiences.

Yes. You have confirmed my thoughts, I think I am going to go for two spur thighs. The lady said that they would be ready in a few weeks, I 'm so excited. I've got my table sorted I just need the lighting. I have emailed the mega ray person at Kimbo's world for advice. I have noticed on some of the indoor set up pictures that some people have more that one lamp/light set around the table. Do they need more than one or is that just if the table is very big?

I'm a bit confused, am I right in thinking that there are a few different types of spur thighed tortoises. Meditarraeanean ones and African ones and that the African ones grow very big but the medittaranean ones (graeca ??) grow to about the same size as a hermans. I don't want to buy two tortoises that will grow really big.

Most young Spur Thighs available here are Testudo Graeca Ibera, or 'Iberas.' The Iberas are from the mediterranean.

You can also get Testudo Graeca Graeca, or 'Graecas' , also referred to as Spur Thighs. The Graecas can be found in North Africa, but are roughly the same size as Hermans, as are the Iberas.

The African Spur Thighs you are on about that grow very big are usually called Sulcatas. Does that help? Or have i just confused you ?!
