Western Hognose Substrate

I’m in the process of planning our enclosure upgrades for the collection and I want to create some very naturalistic set-ups that really mimic the habitat the snake would live in the wild. Hognoses tend to live in prairies and grassland and prefer sandy soil, so I’m considering a mixture of eco-earth and sand as a substrate. I feel that the sand will help to hold tunnels better as well, as my hoggie loves to dig, and it will be more natural and aesthetically pleasing than aspen shavings. Does anyone have any experience of using this mixture or something similar for hognoses, and if not what substrate do you use and why?

Fantastic, thank you for the reassurance. I’m going to do some more research into specific brands and types of soil and sand to use, but it’s really good to know I’m on the right track!
