I'm gonna be breeding my BCI in a few years for various reason, so: what are slugs?

 

basically unfertalised or undeveloped baby boas/eggs.

 

how do you cut em down? when do you think you will have some baby suris?

 

As far as im aware its unfertalized egg cells, but im sure if im wrong someone will correct me :2thumb:

 

yes thats what i thought. just wondered if there is a cause or if its just one of those things you cant avoid or help.

 

i have seen badly kept snakes give close to full litters
and ive seen the best keepers with loads of slugs!
just follow good houskeeping and keep your fingers crossed!

I was at a meeting about 18 months ago when someone asked Dave Barker of VPI exactly that question. He said that obesity was a major cause. That may be why Ian has seen badly kept snakes give good litters.

over weight animals definately produce more slugs, and are generally poor breeders this is fairly well documented.

However as Ian says there is alot of luck involved, its the same with any conception in any animal species, not every egg is going to get fertalized, which is why so many eggs and sperm are produced, its a simply down to odds.
