Ive started building a vivarium for a leopard gecko. The vivarium is 2.5ft long by 1.5ft wide by 1.7ft high.

. What size heat mat am i best to get for it?
. Also if i put it in the vivarium could i put polysterene on top of it or am i looking to start a fire?
. If so where else would be the possible place for it to be?
. Would i need a heat lamp?
. Would i need a light?

BTW - the viv is being made out of 18mm melamine chipboard.

Sorry for all the Q's but i cant seem to find answers anywhere.
Thanks for the help in andvanced. : victory:

1. The heatmat wants to cover approx one third of the floor surface, so a habistat heat mat (around 11 x 17 inches) or similar can be used, but make sure it's on a thermostat.
2. I would have though actual contact between heatmat and polysterene would be a hazard
3. So put the polysterene anywhere where it doesn't touch the heatmat
4. For Leopard Geckos heat lamps are not essential but can be used. If you do use it make sure the gecko cannot touch it and the lamp is on a dimmer stat
5. Leos dont require uv or other forms of light, daylight through a window will suffice, but, again, UV can be used.

hope this helps:2thumb:
