I am looking to pickup a hognose soon, and would just like to see peoples set ups for theirs if possible ?

Also could you tell me what is best to keep them on, i was thinking aspen since they like to burrow, also would a 3 foot vivarium be sufficient for the lifespan of the hoggie?

Thanks.

Thank you for the reply, i would partition off the 3ft viv about 1/3 of the way in to start with to make it a little smaller for the hoggie, then when it grows remove the partition, saves money in the long run lol

Don't have any pics but my new female hoggie hatchling, who I got a week ago on Saturday, is in a large flat faun - in the small section and I plan to introduce her to more space gradually, I've covered all but one side so she only has one view out to let her settle in ok & she's settling in really well she's shed, taken her first feed (2nd feed tomorrow) and is full of hissy attitude and makes a right fuss when you take her out but she soon settles down. At the moment she's on kitchen roll not aspen but she seems to like hiding under it just fine, except when she's out exploring her new home, trying to climb and plopping into her water dish, I'll change to aspen when she's a bit older lol :2thumb:

For size of enclosure I think it depends on the animal. I got a yearling and kept him in a rub for a couple weeks. He ate like clockwork so I moved him into a 2'x2' enclosure and he still eats perfectly. I gave him lots of hiding spots. If is was a real young animal i would have kept him in the rub. So try him in the larger tank and if he seems stressed and doesn't eat move him to something smaller.

This is exactly how I keep mine, but I also mix the aspen 50/50 with eco earth.

I've heard the occasional tale that a hoggie likes to climb. True? We're thinking of getting one and are wondering whether we should add any (not very tall) branches and similar so that some good old fashioned adventure opportunities are available.

Well my hatchling hoggie is really active and always trying to climb and then I hear her plopping into her water bowl, silly girl :lol2:

hey i would highly recommend megazorb as a really good hognose substrate my hognose loves it can burrow in it very easily and also gives a natural rocky type look to what they would have in the wild ^_^ also mine does the same climbs up the side of my viv to the top then falls into his water bowl haha although bear in mind with hognoses since the female gets double the size as a male that may affect your viv size decision

hope this helps

I would start it off in tubs tbh, much cheaper and if you end up with one of those males that doesn't like large spaces a 3 foot viv is going to be a waste (for the hog at least :whistling2:). I doubt one of mine is ever going to leave his 9L RUB cos of the way he is!
