Hi all, my little lady ghost mantis did the final molt the other day, so once she'd settled down again I grab a couple of pics.
Only once so far has she spread her wings and I didn't have camera to hand but def gonna try and get a pic of that as she's stunning colours when displaying.
She's eating again and hopefully my mate down the road will bring his male up and she can get jiggy with him :flrt:
I think she's lovely anyway, loves to be handled and eats like a horse :lol2:

Lovely Ghost Mantis but sorry to say I don't think it's female. If it was female the antennae would be shorter and the body would come right down to the bottom of the wings. I think the females also have shorter head crests as well. Still gorgeous though.

nice p.Paradoxa but its def a male! two kinks in the head crown!

Nice one, I was up in the air as to sex if I'm honest, having looked a bit harder I came across some info that confirms HE is def a male, apparently the fems have a much wider abdomen (pokes out either side lol) and a wider crown with only one kink, the male has a thinner crown with 2 kinks, the females wings are shorter than abdomen compared to male whos wings stick out past the abdomen.
Thanks guys for pointing me in right direction, I've got a few congo's and indian flowers which are so easy to sex but "he's" my only ghost and counting the segments is nigh on impossible with all the sticky out camouflage bits my eyes couldn''t count his legs let alone segments :lol2:

Some are a bit scary to look at but there's only a couple of the giant size ones that can hurt a little, in general they seem to enjoy interacting with us humans, once on your finger they seem reluctant to want to go back into their tank/tub, I find them great little critters that in the most need very little from you, bit of fresh water, some food and not too cold and they seem happy as larry, there are some that require more strict conditions (violin mantis springs to mind) that will only take flying food and require a higher humidity but on the whole I can definately recommend them as a really interesting and rewarding addition to any home :2thumb:
Bite the bullet and get a couple, you won't be disapointed
