ultramel is what you get when you cross a cat with a corn snake.. most breeders havent managed it yet though because of the sheer quantities of uranium involved...
(seriously though.. there are so many morphs floating around now that i dont know what half of them actually are either so your not alone hun)

Hi jen, the ultra gene is just another form of hypomelanism, an ultra x amel will give you ultramels

but the ultra gene works really odd when predicting the offspring, im assuming thats cause ultra is codominenet to amel(there still debate) but it makes sense to the results

but to give you an indication on offspring

amel to amel will give 100% amels in the f1(direct offspring)

amel to ultramel will give 50% amel, 50% ultramel in the f1(direct offspring)

ultramel to ultramel will give 25% amel, 50% ultramel and 25% ultras in the f1(direct offspring)

as you can see it works very different from other morphs youve seen with the offspring and its really easy to get ultras and ultramels without having to wait two generations so watch those prices drop in the coming years:no1:

Someone asked me if I wanted to add an ultra amber to my USA shipment the other day....

So isn't that mixing ultra with the hypo gene anyway? Its all very confusing.. didn't say yes because I really don't know what I'd breed that with or what I'd get... way too confusing!

I think it was about $350 but it's a 2 yr old... wouldn't cost me more than that because I'm already paying all the damn shipping.. so just taxes this end.

Didn't go for it because I'd never heard of ultra amber.. maybe they did mean ultra caramel? Pretty picture but not much use to me breeding.. was a female too, I think for the ultra gene the sensible thing to do is use expensive males on multiple cheap females.

i'd have gone for it.
is it too late?
i'll take her?

:lol2: I'll ask! I've only got so much room in the box as I'm going in with someone else as they have an import license, and I think she'll take up the space of quite a few hatchlings too.

ah that would be a shame to miss it
lol, well tell her you DO want it.. then just let me have it lol

Hypo golddust? I'm so confused...

I was thinking about getting an ultramel to go with my snow stripe but then I got confused and gave up..

Think is.. I have 3 adult female snows, one is either het for motley or stripe, not sure yet, and 4 adult female amels.. that every year I use just to produce amel and snow.. was thinking maybe I would actually use them for something more interesting If I bought a male or 2 in.

There's a lot of really nice stuff in the US at the moment, I might look into getting an import license a bit later in the year, once all the Serpenco starts shipping... and then do a whole shipment myself. But it's just so much hassle and worry

The advantage is that I and the OH travel to the states a lot.. he's actually there right now sorting out in person some of the things for my shipment.. so it means that I can have any corns I want shipped continental US fedex to our place in MA, and then have them fedexed to the broker who will pack them all up and ship them, I don't have to be limited to breeders who will ship themselves to the UK.. and if you look at all the smaller breeders, there is a LOT on offer, and a lot of the time adults or subs are being sold. If you stick to the few big people who ship to the UK, it's almost always hatchlings (and higher prices than the little people too)

Well more interesting to me, probably still all low end stuff to you :Na_Na_Na_Na:

Next year I'll have breeding a pair of amel het butter stripe.. probably won't get any butter stripes but we'll see :) Also will have my hypo motley het snows breeding... I have caramel motleys.. my older female and nigel's male will definitely be breeding, not sure about the small female, probably leave her until the year after. I'll also have ghost motley, anery motley, anery stripe, snow stripe, amel stripe, granite, blood red, butter, lavender...

This year I just had normal/amel/snow/anery/ghost/2 blood red but that was it.... a few anery motley and snow motley that I wasn't expecting.

And 2009 my lavender motleys will be up to scratch too :)

i read this thread thinking... YAY i wil understand more about ultramel now... erm perhaps I was wrong...

Ultramel to Snow (Amelanistic Anerythristic):

50% amel het anery (this is when the Ultramel gives its copy of Amel to the offspring)
50% ultramel het anery (this is when the Ultramel gives its copy of Ultra to the offspring).

Ultramel to Charcoal het Bloodred (same as 'het pewter') =

100% Normal, all of whom are:
  • het Charcoal,
  • het EITHER Amel or Ultra (and you can't tell which, but each offspring HAS to be het for one or the other)
  • 50% possible het Bloodred (which you might be able to see in the belly checkers).
And an Anery B motley is more commonly known as a Charcoal Motley. I don't know I've ever seen one - doesn't seem like too many people are working on pattern morphs with charcoals other than Diffuse :)
